Following my redundancy from an extensive career in public service, I was considering my options and discovered that Citizens Advice had numerous opportunities in my local area. I decided to volunteer with Citizens Advice.
I began volunteering with Citizens Advice in North & West Kent in 2018. With my former career in IT Project Management having been curtailed early following health challenges,
I started looking for volunteer work when I retired as I had more time to give. I have now been working at Citizens Advice as a Volunteer Debt Adviser for just over ten years and I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience.
Having retired last year, I decided to take up some voluntary work as I wanted to continue contributing to the local community.
When I retired, I found I had much more time on my hands and wanted to do something useful for other people, so I became a volunteer for Citizens Advice.
I started volunteering at Citizens Advice because I wanted to give something back using the skills developed during my working life in the banking sector.
I joined Citizens Advice as a volunteer Generalist Adviser nearly 20 years ago to complement my work as a Business Adviser, with local Enterprise Agencies. I am now a form-filler, helping clients to claim disability benefits to which they might be entitled.
I had a long career in public service, and on retiring ten years ago began an academic career. Whilst volunteering at a university’s legal advice clinic, I discovered the work was really rewarding and realised that I wanted to continue helping people in this way.
I’m Jasmine and I started volunteering for Citizen’s Advice North & West Kent in September 2021. I wanted to gain more experience in marketing so I applied for the role of Social Media Volunteer.
In the run up to retiring at 60, I began looking for a voluntary role with an organisation that provided real practical help to people in the community.
