Our volunteers benefit from their experience of working with us. Retired volunteers believe it keeps them mentally active, and nine in ten unemployed volunteers say it helps them move into employment or education.

At Citizens Advice in North & West Kent, we have many different volunteering opportunities, including advice and non-advice roles.

Description

As a Meet & Greet Assistant, you will be the first point of contact in supporting local people in accessing our drop-in video advice service, the Kent Advice Hub, at our outreach. This involves greeting our outreach clients, helping those who are vulnerable and digitally excluded to make a video call, and supporting them throughout the session if needed.

Please note that due to the nature of this work and our clients, you will need to be 18+ years of age.

Time commitment

4 hours per week, on Wednesdays from 9:15am to 1:15pm to manage the video advice service

Skills needed

No experience is needed. However, you will need to be:

  • Friendly and approachable
  • Be non-judgmental and respectful
  • Have good listening skills
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good basic digital skills (to help people make a video call at our outreach)

Description

Location: Sevenoaks

We are seeking a strategic, forward-thinking leader for this high-impact, ambitious organisation at a pivotal time to deliver advice services with the maximum impact for both the individual client and at scale across the community as a whole. 

This is a significant leadership opportunity — ideal for an experienced leader who wants to influence social justice at scale. 

The Chair leads the Board of Trustees and works closely with the Chief Executive Officer to ensure robust governance, strategic alignment, and sustained performance. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Chair quarterly and ad hoc Board meetings, driving effective governance and performance review of the organisation 
  • Maintain regular contact with the Chief Executive Officer and meet ad hoc with other trustees and senior staff 
  • Support the Chief Executive to deliver strategic ambitions 
  • Lead Board succession planning and development, ensuring the right skills and diversity are in place 
  • Represent the charity with the Chief Executive in engagement with funders, stakeholders, and the wider community 

Time commitment

  • Around 4–5 evening Board meetings per year (2.5 hours each, plus preparation) 
  • Annual AGM and strategy day
  • Regular meetings with the CEO and Treasurer (daytime), and meetings with the CEO as required, and meetings with the Treasurer (daytime).
  • Additional informal engagement with staff, funders, and service visits is strongly encouraged. 

Skills needed

Person Specification 

We are looking for a Chair who matches the ambition of our organisation. You will bring: 

  • Proven leadership experience, ideally in complex, high-performing environments 
  • The ability to support and challenge the executive team and fellow trustees 
  • Strong facilitation and chairing skills in experienced teams 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and networking abilities 
  • Experience of engaging internal and external stakeholders 
  • A willingness and ability to attend key meetings during working hours 

Previous charity governance experience is welcome, but not essential.

Description

You will be providing free telephone and face-to-face advice from one of our offices (Gravesham, Dartford, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, or Tunbridge Wells).

Time commitment

This role requires a minimum commitment of 2 days per week.

Description

Our volunteer Form-Filling Advisers talk to clients over the phone and face-to-face to explore any problems they’ve come for help with and find information about possible options. They then help clients to understand the information and support them in completing the official forms needed to take action.

This position will be based out of our Gravesend or Dartford offices. 

Time commitment

1 day per week for a minimum of 12 months

No experience is needed. However, you will need to be:

  • A good listener and explain information in a simplified manner
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Eager to learn and help others
